Farm Agronomist - Vegetables - Bundaberg - FILLED BY US!

 

This is an opportunity for an agronomist to work with a flourishing business in the Bundaberg region across their multi-site farming system. A system that provides large scale production, innovative farming practices and high quality produce to local and international markets.

A family-owned contemporary agribusiness located in Bundaberg. Specialising in snacking tomatoes among various other lines, supplying fresh produce to all major retailers throughout Australia all year round. Due to the expansion and growth they have achieved, they are looking for an experienced person to manage their agronomy and assist in continuing to improve the farming system.

The role itself?
This is an opportunity to join a fantastic farm services team. Your day to day activities in this role will include: 

  • Undertake pre-planting soil testing, analyse results and recommend soil and nutrient requirements

  • Working closely with senior management, plan and coordinate planting schedule for all crops

  • Plan and coordinate spray/fertilizer schedule for all crops – Ensuring spray records are kept up to date

  • Manage and coordinate all varietal trials for all crops, liaising with seed reps and evaluating results

  • Scout crops, as often as required, for insect, disease and nutrition requirements

  • Recommend crop protection requirements, in line with programmed schedule

  • Continually improve and develop crop protection program in line with industry best practise

  • Review spray diary to ensure completion and compliance, paying specific attention to WHP and Off Label Permits

  • Monitor and report weed populations and recommend best control methods

  • Spray water pH tested and appropriate buffer solution/rate recommended

  • Spray coverage for each spray rig monitored with spray operators

  • Soil pH (under plastic mulch/in crop) and irrigation water source pH

  • End of season analysis and reporting of the following;

    • Chemical usage and costs o Fertiliser usage and costs

    • Nutrient removal for each block/crop

    • Planting and relationship to pre-plant requirements

What kind of person will fit the role?
The perfect person for this role will have tertiary qualifications in agronomy, proven knowledge and experience in vegetable production. As you will be working with an established farm team, it is extremely important that you have an ability to communicate, collaborate and lead.
